Dominique Mendiola will serve as interim director until a full time replacement is found
This release from MED just in…
I want to share an announcement with you concerning a change of leadership at the Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED). Jim Burack has resigned from his position as director of MED effective Friday, April 2, 2021.
Jim has served as the director of MED since February 2016 and has been with the Colorado Department of Revenue since 2014. Jim has been a tremendous asset to MED, demonstrated by his contributions to the continued development of the nation’s first adult-use program for regulated marijuana, his work to enhance the division’s collaborative engagement with stakeholders, and his focus on building a diverse team dedicated to public service, transparency, collaboration, and problem solving. He also played a key role in formalizing regular information-sharing between states with regulated frameworks, which has led to the formation of the Cannabis Regulators Association (CannRA), now with 27 member states. Jim serves as second vice president.
I will be working closely with stakeholders, MED staff, and DOR leadership to conduct a hiring process for a new director. During the transition period, I’m happy to announce that Dominique Mendiola has agreed to serve as interim director until the position can be filled permanently.
Please join me in thanking Jim for his service to DOR and MED.
