Just because you may not have heard that much out of Minnesota it doesn’t mean that the state isn’t going through the same birthing pains as everybody else.
I speak with Jeff Brinkman who has been operating a cannabis business in the state since 2018 and he’s perfectly placed to give us some insights about what’s happening there.
Amongst the many issues Jeff highlights, there are four strands that he believes need some degree of urgency before it all gets out of hand
- Clarity & transparency on the ownership of licenses
- The role of advisors and consultants (especially so with regard to lobbyists in the state house)
- More oversight of the state cannabis regulation agency with, to put it bluntly, better regulators at the apex of the organization
- More education for legislators, regulators and across state government about cannabis & hemp so that lobbyists have less control in directing the conversation , the legislators don’t dump unworkable rules on the cannabis regulator and government, itself, is better educated so that issues are better managed statewide.
