A great conversation with Corey about the growth of insurance cover for cannabis businesses, plant touching and non plant touching, throughout the US.
Similar to finance it has been the state operators who have taken on the mantle and generally those at the independent and SME end of the scale. Insurers who understand local rules and regs and have been willing to understand their clients and the risk factors involved in the industry.
Corey alludes to the fact that the bigger companies who have either just decided to appear on the scene or are still waiting on the touchline are most probably out of the game already.
We also discuss the work he’s beginning to do outside the US and the various scenarios for cannabis businesses and insurance as we go into 2025 where a number of factors from re-scheduling to a new administration will play a big hand in how the sector is insured going forward.
Corey recently attended MJ Biz in Vegas which allowed us to also discuss his thoughts on the state of play of the sector generally.

Symphony Risk Solutions named Corey Tobin director of Symphony Grow, its specialty business focused on the cannabis industry.
Tobin has more than 15 years of experience in the cannabis and insurance industries.
He most recently served as senior vice president at IMA Financial Group. He previously served as an account executive at Jackson & Jackson Insurance Agents and Brokers. Tobin also previously owned and operated several cannabis businesses.
Symphony Risk Solutions is headquartered in San Francisco.
