Welcome back to the Karma Koala podcast.

In our latest episode we speak to another Senate hopeful.

Miles Hunt is a lawyer with a background in drug law reform in Australia.

We cover all the usual topics including the current “medical” paradigm, building an Australian cannabis future not reliant on cheap imports from Canada, how to think about cannabis and education and a lot more besides

Miles has dedicated his life to championing drug decriminalisation and legalisation, with a particular focus on medicinal and adult-use cannabis, pill testing and sniffer dog reform.

Miles made national headlines when he courageously declared himself a “drug-taking lawyer” on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald, using his platform to spotlight the urgent need for legislative change.

As a practising lawyer, Miles often represented individuals charged with cannabis possession. His first-hand experience has solidified his belief that the legalisation of cannabis is long overdue.

“The prohibition of cannabis has been one of the greatest failures of modern times”, Miles asserts. “Legalisation and regulation are essential for a fair and just society. When I get to Canberra, I will do everything in my power to ensure we achieve this”.

Miles’ vision and determination make him a powerful advocate for progressive reform and a fairer future for all Australians.

About: Miles Hunt came out as the drug-taking lawyer on the front page of the SMH about a decade ago and survived to tell the tale – although it wasn’t all smooth sailing. He will discuss the reasons why he ‘came out’ and the effects it had on his career, reputation and personal relationships. Discussing the pros and cons of doing this for an individual, but also the benefits to society of an open drug discourse. He acknowledges that coming out is not an option for everyone, and that there is some inherent luck and privilege in his story, but as a lawyer, he believes it is vitally important to fight for better and more just laws, especially in relation to drugs.
