KUALA LUMPUR: Those who have sufficient scientific evidence supporting the use of cannabis-based products for medical treatment can come forward to submit their product registration, says the Health Ministry.
However, they must comply with the relevant laws, the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply dated March 3.
Cannabis and its derivatives are currently classified as dangerous drugs under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and as poisons under the Poisons Act 1952 respectively.
The ministry said that existing laws regulate medicines, poisons, psychotropic substances, and dangerous drugs. It also regulates the importation, sale, supply, and possession aspects of cannabis-based products for medical purposes, but this is subject to the compliance of the relevant laws. He was responding to a question by Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen (PH-Bandar Kuching) on whether there are plans to approve the use of medical marijuana.
