Moroccan intelligence aids Canary Islands in seizing over 4.7 tons of hashish

The Spanish Civil Guard, with support from Morocco’s Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), seized over 4.7 metric tons of hashish aboard two rubber boats intercepted between the Canary Islands of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

This joint operation, facilitated by “close police cooperation” with Morocco, utilised a maritime surveillance system to locate the boats approximately 80 kilometres off the coast, according to local reports citing police sources.

The boats were found carrying 131 bundles of drugs.

Four crew members aboard the boats were arrested by the Guardia Civil on the high seas.

The suspects have since been placed under the custody of Spanish judicial authorities, who have ordered their pre-trial detention.
