Moroccan Police Seize 9.8 Tons of Hashish, Arrest Six Suspects

Rabat – Moroccan police intercepted a massive drug trafficking operation in Marrakech on Tuesday, seizing 9.8 tons of hashish and arresting six suspects aged between 29 and 59.

Marrakech police carried out the drug bust in coordination with Safi police after receiving precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

The operation took place in the rural area of Dehar, under the leadership of Gouzmet Imintanout. Among the arrested suspects were a local authority aid and a former municipal council member. The group had been preparing for an international drug maritime smuggling operation when police intervened.

During the raid, police discovered a large quantity of hashish stored in multiple locations. They also seized a utility vehicle with fake license plates, an inflatable boat, and a marine engine, all intended for the smuggling operation.

The authorities have placed the suspects in police custody, and judicial investigators are supervising the ongoing investigation under the relevant public prosecutor.

Investigators aim to uncover additional links to this criminal network and arrest others involved in the operation.

Last week, Sale police arrested four individuals for involvement in drug trafficking and the possession of psychotropic substances.

Police discovered 11,400 Rivotril psychotropic pills in the possession of one of the suspects who was arrested upon entering Sale while arriving on a vehicle from a northern city.

Authorities later arrested three other individuals suspected of being part of the same drug trafficking network.
