New York: Elmira offers cannabis education course.. yes it’s Green Flower again

Elmira College is teaming up with Green Flower to offer a groundbreaking nine-week course on cannabis education and workforce development, designed to provide essential job skills for the growing cannabis industry.

Here in New York, the cannabis market is projected to generate over a billion dollars in 2025, matching the revenue produced in 2024. This leaves a vast, open market for many interested in joining.

“In 2025, the national cannabis industry is expected to generate over 45 billion dollars in revenue in plant-touching and billions more in non-plant-touching companies,” Max Simon, CEO of Green Flower said. “The thing about cannabis is it’s complex, and it really does take people being well-educated to succeed.”

Max also shared that when he first pitched these programs to colleges across the nation in the late 2010s, he was “laughed at,” with many schools thinking the idea was crazy. However, once a few institutions got on board and colleges witnessed the enthusiasm these programs brought to students, the courses quickly gained popularity.

The nine-week online program will offer specialized classes, including:

  • Cannabis Cultivation Specialist Program
  • Cannabis Retail Specialist Program
  • Cannabis Extraction & Product Development Specialist Program

These courses will help students gain industry knowledge and skills tailored to their interests, whether in cultivation, retail, or product development. Classes for the first cohort of 2025 begin on February 3rd, and while students have already started registering, enrollment is still open.
