Yes. This is real. Cannabis-convicts and their family members will get the first chance to apply for dispensary licenses in New York 😮
And no, I DO NOT advise trying to get yourself arrested for a cannabis offense to qualify for this priority… this only applies to those convicted of a cannabis-related offense in NY prior to March 31, 2021.
Why that arbitrary date? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
However, one thing is for sure, if they say the first 100-200 dispensary licenses will go to those with criminal records… to me that implies that they likely plan on giving out THOUSANDS of licenses long term.
We just got our first glimpse of just how massive New York’s cannabis industry is going to be.
