We’ve just received an informative email from Nigerian lawyer, Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja, about his two draft bills for the legalization of the cultivation of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes in the country.

By way of introduction my name is Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, I am a lawyer and law lecturer on the Master of Laws (LLM) Legislative Drafting programme of the University of Benin, I hold a PhD in law degree from the University of London. My full-time job is as a legislative drafting lawyer for the National Assembly of Nigeria (national parliament). Both international and Nigerian lawyers, who are familiar with my professional experience in my area of law, have written letters of reference and support, copies are attached to this email.
As evidence of my administrative experience, in May 2019, I was sworn in as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission following my appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria upon the recommendation of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. This is a part-time role. I also gained administrative experience when I previously a Chairman of the Tenancy Arbitration Tribunal of the London Borough of Southwark, In terms of research and publication, as can be seen from my CV which is attached, I have over fifty (50) publications including fifteen (15) articles in international law journals and seven law books published within and outside Nigeria.
Dr Jaja is due to deliver a lecture to the Hemp Association of Ghana on 14th November 2020.

Bill To Legalise Cultivation Of Marijuana Passes Second Reading
A bill seeking the legalisation and usage of industrial hemp plants for medical and scientific research is presently before the House of Representatives.
According to Vanguard, the bill, which was presented by Princess Miriam Onuoha representing Okigwe North of Imo State, has passed the second reading.

This was disclosed by Dr Tonye Jaja Clinton, a legal practitioner, during a media parley organized by Grow Cann Africa in Abuja on the benefits and opportunities of cannabis plants and CBD oil.
This is just as experts from Canada have started pushing for the cultivation and development of non-intoxicating Cannabis, Cannabidiol, CBD oil, and industrial hemp markets in the country.
The group said Nigeria is well-positioned to tap into the increasing global demand for Cannabis, CBD oil and industrial hemp markets poised to hit $10bn in 2020.
