Two suspects were arrested after a thermal camera was reportedly used to scope out houses for cannabis grows.
Officers were called to Sherwood on Wednesday (17 January) night after someone was allegedly seen filming houses.
A car was reportedly spotted driving slowly through the area at 11.30pm and aiming a handheld camera at people’s homes.
After hearing about this suspicious behaviour, police attended minutes later and spotted a vehicle matching the description nearby.
The car was then followed and pulled over in Nottingham Road, New Basford, at which point a thermal imaging camera was discovered.
Suspecting the heat sensor equipment had been used to spot hidden cannabis grows to potentially steal later, police detained the two men in the car.
Two men, aged 22 and 25, were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft.
Detective Sergeant James Hirst, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the alertness of our officers, we were able to quickly respond to these reports of suspicious activity and pull over a car that we believe was involved.
“A thermal imaging camera was then seized from inside the vehicle, which we strongly believe was being used to scope out the area for any potential hidden cannabis grows based inside the properties.
“Suspecting the motive for this would’ve been to at some point come back and try to take any cannabis found, we arrested two suspects at the roadside.
“Cannabis production brings nothing but trouble to communities, whether it be through the fire risk these grows pose, or the link to wider criminality.
“It is certainly not a victimless crime, so we’d always urge anyone who suspects a grow could be operating in their area to let us know by reporting it to the police by calling 101.”
