CPEAR Polling Finds 67 Percent of Missouri Voters Support States’ Rights Approach to Cannabis Policy
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Coalition for Cannabis Policy, Education, and Regulation released new and original polling from Missouri showing robust support for the STATES Act. Our polling surveyed likely voters aged 21+ throughout the state and found strong support for allowing states to make their own decisions about cannabis policy.
“The polling is straightforward – midwestern voters want autonomy to develop policies that work best for them,” said Andrew Freedman, CPEAR executive director. “Voters understand the importance of having the right to choose what cannabis policies work best for them without interference from the federal government. The STATES Act will do just that by giving voters in The Show-Me State control over what happens in their own backyard. Congress should heed the people’s will and pass this bipartisan legislation now.”
Key highlights of the poll in Missouri include:
62% of Republicans support the STATES Act; and
36% of voters say they would be more likely to vote for a Congressional candidate who supports the STATES Act; and
The most cited reason why Missouri voters who support the STATES Act say they do so is because it protects states’ rights to decide locally.
The survey shows that in Missouri, voters believe giving states more control over their ability to legislate cannabis policy is key. The STATES Act is ideal to help Missourians achieve this by ensuring the federal government is in alignment with the laws they chose.
