The Queensland government will close two pill testing sites next month, despite new evidence a lethal synthetic opioid is spreading in Australia.
For the first time nitazenes, which are stronger than fentanyl and hundreds of times more potent than heroin, have been detected in Australian wastewater.
The drug has been found in illicit substances ranging from MDMA and cocaine to counterfeit pharmaceuticals — and is linked to dozens of overdose deaths nationally and overseas.
