Introducing Safe Storage for ME (Medical & Adult Use)
The Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) has recently launched Safe Storage for ME, a new initiative in collaboration with over 200 medical and adult use cannabis retailers statewide that provides patients and consumers with access to free lockable storage bags. Learn more.

Participating retailers who have distributed all their bags are reminded to contact Tracy Jacques to complete their participation.

Metrc Support Portal Update (Adult Use)
OCP reminds adult use licensees that as of April 15, Metrc has fully transitioned to a new Metrc Support Portal. All support cases will need to be submitted through the Metrc Support Portal at support.metrc.com or by phone at 877-566-6506. This change is intended to improve the speed at which tickets are received, processed and resolved by Metrc.

Lessons from Licensing

Manufacturing, in both medical and adult use, means, “The production, blending, infusing, compounding or other preparation of cannabis concentrate and cannabis products, including, but not limited to, cannabis extraction or preparation by means of chemical synthesis.”
Packaging harvested cannabis that is not blended, infused, compounded, or otherwise prepared, including the creation of pre-rolls, is not a manufacturing activity. Program participants simply packaging harvested cannabis do not need to have a separate manufacturing license or authorization, but must preform these activities at an already authorized location.

Compliance Corner

Adult use licensees are reminded to record any remediation steps that are taken with a batch of cannabis flower, concentrate, or products in the inventory tracking system. Remediation actions are important to record so that further testing can be tied to remediation attempts, which are fully allowed, versus continuous retesting of failed batches, which is not allowed.

Legislative Updates

Over the coming weeks, OCP will be issuing guidance related to legislative changes as a result of the second regular session of the 131st Legislature. The Office will clearly communicate all details related to the implementation and timing of changes enacted during this past legislative session, including adoption of the major substantive rules governing the adult use program.

All guidance will continue to be distributed to the appropriate program participants and made available on this OCP webpage.

Plus, stay tuned for information about how to participate in OCP’s upcoming Cannabis Hospitality Task Force!

Team OCP – Meet Scott & Chris

Scott Corbett and Chris Stearns both joined the OCP team in Fall 2023 as field investigators in southern Maine. They serve as a resource for program participants and help ensure compliance with the medical and adult use cannabis rules and statutes.

In his role at OCP, Scott most enjoys meeting program participants and learning about the industry. He shared, “From large business owners to the mom-and-pops, they are all proud of the work they do and are willing to educate on what they do.”

Similarly, Chris expressed, “I like the variables of the work and doing many different things and meeting nice people. It’s also a great collaborative team environment to work in.”
