South Dakota: Pierre smoke, vape shop sues to block law that bans synthetic hemp

A Pierre-based smoke shop that sells hemp related products is asking a federal judge to block a new law that bans the sale and manufacture of industrial hemp treated with chemically derived cannabinoids.

The new law is set to go into effect July 1 after passing the Legislature with scant opposition among lawmakers in March. Gov. Kristi Noem signed the legislation – House Bill 1125 – later that month.

The lawsuit brought by Hemp Quarters 605 was filed against Noem, Attorney General Marty Jackley and Hughes County State’s Attorney Casey Deibert.
