Maybe the cannabis burgers will save the business? The problem with South Park and their cannabis / Randy plot lines is that they are so scarily near to the truth of mismanagement of some companies in the industry, that the satire can almost get lost. We have a investigative story on the way that even Randy might think is a bit crazy. But then again that’s Colorado for you.
WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for South Park‘s Season 23 episode, “Let Them Eat Goo.”
South Park’s 23rd season has been all about Randy Marsh living what he thinks is the American dream. His weed business has seen a lot of ups and downs, however, mostly stemming from him allying and then severing ties with China as he realized that he needs Tegridy Farms to be truly free from the corporate machine. However, episode 4, “Let Them Eat Goo,” finds his marijuana company operations coming to a grinding halt and the only person he has to blame is, unsurprisingly, himself.
Randy has shown a lot of incompetence this season, first by selling out to Disney and murdering Winnie the Pooh so he could gain China’s favor, not to mention him parting ways for a bit with his business partner, Towelie. They’ve reunited, but it’s their reunion that leads to the downfall of Tegridy.
Following Towelie’s suggestion they diversify to earn extra revenue streams after kicking China to the curb, Randy creates Tegridy Burgers, a plant-based burger business using weed as the raw material. Business gets off to a booming start quickly, but pretty soon they run afoul of Burger King, as well as the Goo Man, who wants his Incredible Meats to supply South Park with plant-based food, not Tegridy. Randy also comes into the crosshairs of the town’s farmers, with one actually dropping cows off at his ranch because no one wants beef burgers anymore; they’re too busy getting high off Tegridy Burgers.
When the cows keep eating Randy’s marijuana due to hunger, he decides the best way to solve the pest problem is by animal cruelty. That’s right, he and Towelie get high and, to the beat of Musical Youth’s reggae hit, “Pass the Dutchie,” slaughter the cows with shotguns. It’s a gory, gruesome scene, as creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker hold nothing back, showing close-ups of Randy and Towelie blowing the animals’ brains out and basking in the kills. They’re enjoying it because they think they’re safeguarding their business.
