St Lucia Cabinet Gives Go Ahead To Draft Cannabis Legislation

Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the drafting of legislation that would establish a cannabis industry in St Lucia.
Commerce and Investment Minister Bradly Felix made the announcement today (July 28) while addressing reporters.
“We are here this afternoon as a result of a voice note, which, no pun intended, has been blazing up over the social media,” Felix said in making the announcement.
The minister referred to a voice note in circulation from Cannabis Movement of Saint Lucia Chairman Andre de Caires in which he spoke of full legalisation of cannabis coming to St Lucia.

Cabinet Authorizes drafting of Legislation and Framework for Cannabis Industry
The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Department to draft the legislative and regulatory framework to assist in the controlled implementation of a cannabis industry to include religious use, personal use, medical use and scientific research and to establish a licensing structure to regulate the industry. The Cabinet has also authorized for moves to be made for the Criminal Records of Offenders Board to expunge the criminal records of users charged with unlawful possession of cannabis under 30 grams.
