We created this movement to ensure safe and affordable access to all people who need cannabis– and home growing is one of the best ways to achieve those fundamental goals.
The regulated supply chain is neither safe nor affordable. Recent articles about pesticides and repeated product recalls demonstrate that cannabis in the regulated supply chain is not safe. And we already know that overtaxation and overregulation have made cannabis from licensed dispensaries far more expensive than that available in the legacy, unregulated market.
The unregulated, legacy marketplace offers more affordable cannabis, but it is also not safe. The vape pen crisis of a few years ago, which cost the lives of several cannabis consumers, is proof of that. And less dramatically, because legacy cannabis is mostly untested it can have dangerous levels of chemical residues and natural pathogens, some of which– like Aspergillus– are life threatening.
Home grown cannabis is both safe and affordable, but it is prohibited in almost half of the states that have “legalized” cannabis. It is safe because home growers have 100% control over the growing conditions, and all of the nutrients and pest control used on their crops. And homegrown cannabis– like homegrown tomatoes– will always be the least expensive option. But 17 of the 38 states that have some form of legal cannabis have banned home growing entirely, and many others significantly restrict it.
