Teenage boy arrested after boat with 1.6 tons of hash on board is stopped off Tenerife

A teenage Moroccan boy was one of three people who were arrested when a boat with 1.6 tons of hashish on board was intercepted by Spanish police off the Tenerife coast.

The minor, who is believed to be under 16-years-of-age was detained alongside two other Moroccan men, aged 32 and 36, for suspicion of drug trafficking and smuggling.

They were stopped by the Spanish Civil Guard who seized 1,640 kilograms of hashish from a boat in a joint operation with customs and the tax authorities on New Year’s Eve.

The Guardia Civil announced the details of the bust which involved “investigative services” who were monitoring the movements of the suspicious boat after an anonymous tip.

The boat had sailed close to the coast of the Spanish island of Tenerife when several units of the Guardia Civil and the Navy made their move.
