IN AT No.5 Cannabis
“It’s a historic day,” said Aaron Johnson, of Monterey County National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws and the Coastal Growers Association.
Johnson said he was proud to see cannabis included as part of agriculture and as a reported commodity.
Coastal Growers Association is a nonprofit organization consisting of cultivators, transporters, manufacturers, nurseries, testing labs, distributors, dispensaries and researchers in the Central Coast regions of California.
The cannabis data revealed a gross production value of almost $450 million that was cultivated on 86 acres in one year. The jobs the industry creates are not seasonal and number in the thousands.
Johnson said cannabis in Monterey County also generated $14 million to $15 million in taxes and estimates up to $20 million for 2020. He also thanked Monterey County Supervisors Luis Alejo and Chris Lopez for advocating for the fair treatment of the cannabis industry.
