On July 26th, 2024, Uganda marked a significant milestone in the medical cannabis field by hosting its first-ever Medical Cannabis Day Course. The event, organized by Industrial Hemp Uganda, the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, and the Academy of Cannabinoids India, attracted a diverse group of healthcare professionals eager to expand their knowledge on this emerging area of medicine.
The course was led by Dr. Sayed Tahir Hassan, the founder of the Academy of Cannabinoids India, who shared his extensive expertise in the field. The morning session provided a comprehensive overview, beginning with an introduction to the endocannabinoid system, followed by in-depth discussions on cannabinoid pharmacology, dosage and delivery methods for cannabinoid medicines, and the use of cannabinoids in pain management.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to more specific medical applications. Dr. Hassan covered the role of cannabinoids in cancer treatment, their effects on the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), and their potential in managing neurodegenerative and movement disorders. The sessions were well-received, offering Ugandan medical practitioners valuable insights that could pave the way for more informed and effective use of medical cannabis in their practices.
