A CARLISLE drug dealer was taken to hospital after he tried to destroy evidence of his crime – by eating sandwiches in which he had hidden his cocaine.
Matthew Mitchinson, 20, was in a car that was stopped by the police on Scotland Road in the north of the city on March 21.
At the city’s Rickergate court, he admitted possessing the Class A drug with intent to supply and a second allegation of obstructing the police officers who were involved in his detention.
Prosecutor George Shelley described what happened.
“The defendant was a rear seat passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by the police under the Misuse of Drugs Act,” explained the lawyer. “The officers recovered £145 in cash from Mr Mitchinson.
“It is said that [after being stopped] he started to eat two sandwiches that he had in his possession, but it transpired that there were cocaine wraps within those sandwiches.
