- Uruguay appointed a new director of the Institute for the Regulation and Control of Cannabis (IRCCA).
- After the resignation of the opposition Daniel Radío, the ruling Martín Rodríguez takes control.
- The IRCCA regulates cannabis in Uruguay, reducing drug trafficking by 50%.
Uruguay is not involved in assigning new state roles, especially on issues as sensitive and important as the leadership of the Institute of Cannabis Regulation and Control (IRCCA). In principle, the chosen one had been Daniel Radío of Independent Party (PI), who, for reasons of lack of a sufficiently technical profile, rejected the position, according to reported Scope.
As a result, the new director will be Martín Rodríguez, graduated in Political Science and with experience in the regulation of cannabis in Uruguay. Not a new name in the sector: already held this same position between 2015 and 2019 and, unlike Radío, it belongs to a political space more akin to Broad Front (FA)the party currently in power, with Yamandú Orsi to the head.
