USA: Cannabis Licensing Specialist City of Boston

Overview:

The Cannabis Licensing Specialist supports the Boston Cannabis Board by providing strategic analysis and support for a newly established industry and managing administrative responsibilities. This includes, managing the overall organization of materials for the Boston Cannabis Board, ensuring adherence to municipal and state requirements. The position frequently acts as a liaison to Administration officials, executives, and the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains standard operating procedures to manage the cannabis establishment applications, supportive documentation and communications with the appropriate City departments.
  • Assists with creating briefing materials for meetings and events, including talking points.
  • Prepares memos, spreadsheets, presentations and other reports for Boston Cannabis Board.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, constituents, and other City and governmental departments and agencies
  • Supports the day-to-day operations and activities of the Boston Cannabis Board.
  • Fulfills public record requests.
  • Assist and provide support with public testimony during Boston Cannabis Board Hearings.
  • Performs customer services functions including answering phone calls, directing calls, and answering emails and other inquiries.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in written form.
  • Deal effectively and courteously with the general public.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow-up.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Three to five years of progressive responsibility related experience in licensing or project management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of licensing and Boston Zoning Code.
  • Current familiarity with the cannabis industry and the role equity plays in this industry, Boston’s economy and neighborhoods is required.
  • Experience with Agilepoint, Adobe Acrobat, Infor Public Sector, Logicull, and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides) preferred.
  • Project management skills preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Team oriented and must possess a proactive, collaborative approach to tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of municipal and state government processes preferred.
  • Strong proven organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse community groups in the City of Boston.
  • Exercise confidentiality and discretion with highly sensitive information and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Multitask, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
