USA: Senate Has Approved New FDA Commissioner

The FDA’s  new administrator, will be Dr. Scott Gottlieb  following a vote by the US Senate to approve him

Gottlieb is a physician and former deputy FDA commissioner, is one of President Donald Trump’s first non-cabinet appointees to make it through the Senate and receiving bipartisan support .

Gottlieb has drawn praise for his promise to develop more efforts to fight the USA’s opioid epidemic, including prioritizing developing new technologies to reduce or avoid opioid addiction.

Gottlieb has worked with health care companies as part of global venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates and boutique investment firm T.R. Winston & Co., and he has sat on a board at GlaxoSmithKline PLC, among other positions.
