As cannabis legalization and regulations evolve, the United States is at a tipping point. Congress is now exploring the decriminalization and rescheduling of cannabis as the MORE Act continues to move forward. These sustained changes in laws are impacting our courts and society and are creating a dynamic and sometimes confusing landscape for a variety of disciplines including Law Enforcement, Judges, Drug Court Professionals, the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry, Academia, and Employers Human Resource Associations & Organizations.
As a result of this confusing landscape, the American Judges Association (AJA) http://aja.ncsc.dni.us /partnered with National Judicial College (NJC) https://www.judges.org/, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) https://www.shrm.org/ Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA), https://www.datia.org/, California Western School of Law (CWSL) https://www.cwsl.edu/, Colorado Highway Safety Office (CHSO) https://www.codot.gov/business/grants/safetygrants/highwaysafety and New England Association of Recovery Court Professionals (NEARCP) https://nearcp.org are bringing forward a first of its kind interdisciplinary approach to cannabis issues facing all of these disciplines.
MISSION
The Mission of the Symposium is to engage and integrate associations and organizations, including law enforcement, academia, judges, drug court professionals including specialty court judges, the drug and alcohol testing industry, and human resources and others around the topic of cannabis by developing educational tracks and panels dedicated to each discipline along with integrated panels, plenaries, and workshops.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
To Identify and elucidate the current issues related to the legalization of cannabis and its impact on law enforcement, academia, judges, drug court professional, the drug and alcohol testing industry, and human resources.
- To identify and analyze how cannabis related issues are addressed by each discipline.
- To be better able to identify the best practices to address cannabis related issues.
- To identify how each discipline interrelates with the other on cannabis related issues.
- To identify the best practices in dealing with cannabis interdisciplinary issues.
