Utah: Police hunt for lost pig turns into discovery of weed plants

PRICE, Utah (KUTV) — Carbon County, Utah sheriff’s deputies found several marijuana plants after assisting animal control in catching a domesticated pig that had been running through several properties.

Deputies reported locating the plants when following the stray pig through the county.

They said a search warrant was granted and served before officials entered the property and collected the marijuana plants to be booked into evidence.

Deputies said they have contacted the individuals who cultivated the marijuana plants and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Jeff Wood would like to remind residents that even though medical marijuana is already legal in Utah, patients still don’t have the right to grow their own plants,” they wrote in a Facebook post.

“Likewise, recreational cannabis is still illegal in any form in the state,” they added.

The pig was found and returned home to its owners.
