We’ve seen many bold and surprising predictions being made about the future of the legal cannabis industry – including the fact that it is on its way to being worth more than the NFL by 2020. Recently, market researchers made a prediction that likely won’t raise too many eyebrows, but is still promising in many ways. Cowen and Company, an investment firm with a highly respected research department, has said that legal cannabis sales could surpass that of soda by the year 2030.

More specifically, the firm reports that they expect sales within the legal cannabis industry to continue to climb, reaching $75 billion annually by 2030. The projected figure might even be on the conservative side, according to Vivien Azer, analyst at Cowen and Co.

“New forecasts suggest that the market is already that size,” Azer said.

Title:  I Tested the Weed You Can ‘Buy Legally’ in the UK Over 200 companies sell cannabis they claim is legal throughout Europe, so I ordered a bag.

European law states that if a dried hemp product contains less than 0.2 percent THC (the stuff that gets you high) it is deemed legal produce. While your local dealer’s weed normally ranges from anywhere between ten to 25 percent THC, accompanied by 0.1 to 1 percent of CBD (the stuff with the medical benefits), these Swiss flowers are effectively the opposite—an almost irrelevant amount of THC, combined with over ten percent CBD. The result is various strains of cannabis that may provide some of the therapeutic and medical benefits of CBD without actually getting you high.

Of course, European law is one thing; British law is another. According to the drug law agency release, import cannabis containing any THC—”even if it’s less than 0.5 percent”—and you risk being prosecuted, as doing so is illegal under UK law. CBD products containing zero THC can be legally imported to the UK, but if you advertise them as having medicinal properties they will need to be licensed by the MHRA.

So: It’s not exactly legal in the UK.

Mind you, I discovered this detail after making my order, as it’s not declared by any of the over 200 Italian and Swiss companies willing to sell me the CBD-heavy cannabis (as a nonmedicinal product). It also didn’t stop a package from landing safely in my mailbox.

Title: A $1 billion dollar marijuana dispensary chain is opening a store on New York City’s fanciest shopping street — and it could signal a huge shift in the industry

  • MedMen, a company that operates a chain of marijuana dispensaries, is opening a flagship store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.
  • The store will be for medical marijuana customers at first, but a representative for MedMen says that “momentum is on their side.”
  • It’ll be open for business on April 20.

The marijuana industry is about to make a huge mark on New York City.

MedMen, a cannabis retail company that operates a chain of slick, high-end marijuana dispensaries, is opening a new flagship store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue later this month, Daniel Yi, a senior vice president at MedMen, told Business Insider.

“We’re really excited about it,” Yi said. “We want the store to show our vision of the future for cannabis.”

The 2,000 square foot store, located just a couple blocks away from Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney’s, is set to open on April 20th — something of a holiday for marijuana consumers.

Unlike MedMen’s medical dispensaries in California and Nevada, where marijuana is legal for adults to purchase, New York only allows the sale of medical marijuana to license holders. There are only around 33,000 registered medical marijuana patients in New York, out of a population of almost 20 million, according to Marijuana Business Daily.

The store will sell only what’s allowed under New York’s restrictive laws, meaning it will offer three main product lines to licensed medical marijuana users: Tinctures, gel caps, and vaporizer pens, Yi said.

Though you need to have a license to actually purchase marijuana products at the store, anybody can come in and check it out, Yi said.

“That’s a huge thing for us, in terms of educating the general population and trying to take the stigma out,” Yi said.

MedMen operates three other medical marijuana dispensaries in New York state, which the company hopes to turn into more “retail-oriented” stores if New York’s legislature legalizes cannabis for adult consumption.

Commercial activities regarding recreational or medicinal marijuana are banned in Oxnard. No dispensaries, research labs or cultivation are permitted beyond the small amounts allowed by state law .

But the Oxnard City Council on Tuesday relaxed one small area of marijuana sales — medicinal pot deliveries.

The council voted 4-0 — Councilman Oscar Madrigal was absent from the meeting — to allow deliveries to qualified patients in the city. By doing so, the city is regulating the business and requiring city permits.

“Like a lot of things, Oxnard needs to get modern, and this is the first step to get modern,” Councilwoman Carmen Ramirez said   …/….

Fireworks are banned in the city, including those deemed “safe and sane.” But they are nevertheless commonplace, especially in the weeks before and after the Fourth of July.

“It has become so chaotic, it’s almost like being in a riot,” Mayor Tim Flynn said.

The mayor said he understands the problem is not Oxnard’s alone.

“But it’s especially bad here,” he said.

The current ordinance sets the fine at $250 for “safe and sane” fireworks and $1,000 for dangerous fireworks. The new ordinance continues to fine offenders $1,000 for dangerous fireworks but will fine repeat offenders $500 and $1,000 for setting off “safe and sane” fireworks within a 12-month period.

A British fugitive was seen laughing as police arrested him in Cambodia after discovering a cannabis factory in his back garden – and he was only caught because of a disagreement over a cow.

Wayne Brewer, 50, from London, was handcuffed by police on his property outside Phnom Penh after officers were called because he had refused to help neighbouring farmers retrieve a stray cattle.

Brewer had allegedly told the farmers that they could not come onto his property to look for the cow, so the neighbours asked the police to sort out the dispute.
