Wichita County Sheriff’s Office finds $2.7 mil in cocaine in largest traffic bust

An El Paso man is jailed on $250,000 bond after electric metal shears in his SUV tipped off an investigator to 40 pounds of cocaine hidden in cutouts in the inside panels.

Adam Lopez is charged with the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 400 grams.

He was stopped by an official with the Wichita County Homeland Security Investigator Task Force Unit after noticing traffic violations on Kemp in front of McDonald’s.

The investigator followed Lopez from the McDonald’s until pulling him over on Kell Blvd East, near Brook, at about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

The investigator said Lopez did not have a valid driver’s license, was nervous, and gave conflicting information about where he was going.
