Functional beverage company Kommunity Brew has partnered with Perth-based pharmaceutical company MediCann to produce a range of hemp-infused beverages.
Mason Bagios, founder and CEO of Kommunity Brew, said the company’s new brewery, which opened in Lathlain last year, has increased its production capacity to 750,000 litres per year, and the company is ready to take its functional beverages to the “next level”.
“We’ve got the experience, the equipment and an incredible team, so attracting investment to enable us to expand our marketing and distribution footprint across Australia and internationally is the next logical step,” he said.
“The demand for no-alcohol, low-sugar, good-for-you drinks is exploding worldwide, and this is a fantastic opportunity for us to position WA as a global leader in this industry.”
MediCann founder and director Matt Shales explained that “terpenes” – naturally occurring compounds found in hemp and other plants – can be infused into beverages to offer flavour and therapeutic benefits such as anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and anti-depressant.
“Terpenes are unique because you can achieve a diverse range of real flavours, but more importantly, they play a functional role in the body and can provide us with incredible daily benefits.”
Shales added that the production could commence as early as spring once research and development are complete.
