Faced with the steady increase in the number of people registered to legally access adult-use cannabis and the difficulty of adequately meeting the demand in pharmacies affiliated with the distribution network, the Institute for Regulation and Control of Cannabis (IRCCA) decided to grant new licenses for the production and distribution of recreational cannabis.
After a rigorous selection process, the companies Flores del Plata, Calgrey, Testado and Turigrow were chosen to grow recreational cannabis. Only one company was disqualified for not meeting the requirements set by the regulatory body.
Pioneerism
At the end of 2024, Santiago Navratil and Articles for Jardim Antera were both first approved companies no to cultivating cannabis for purpose. Resolutions 41/2024 and 42/2024 guarantee the validity of their work until November 2027.
Six companies are now allowed to grow cannabis for recreational purposes in Uruguay.
